Bariatric Surgery – Insured Patients
If you’re covered for bariatric surgery under your private health insurance, a one-off fee is payable to cover your care through HWLS, this is the bariatric program fee.
The Program Fee Includes:
- Surgical co-payment
- Bulk-billed appointments with the surgeon and bariatric GP
- Anaesthetic co-payment
- Assistant co-payment
- Two post-op dietitian reviews
- Two post-op psychology reviews
What’s not included:
- Hospital excess
- Pathology, radiology, or other tests that may not covered by your fund
- Additional specialists required for your care
Bariatric Surgery – Uninsured Patients
As you are not covered by private health insurance, you’ll pay a self-funded program fee.
The self-funded program fee includes:
- Surgical fee
- Bulk-billed appointments with the surgeon and bariatric GP
- Two post-op dietitian reviews
- Two post-op psychology reviews
What’s not included:
- Anaesthetist fees
- Assistant fee
- Hospital fees
- Pathology, radiology, or other investigations

Important: If complications occur or your hospital stay is extended, additional costs apply. For high-risk patients, we strongly recommend private health insurance to avoid large, unexpected costs.
